Stained Glass
Menu

The stained glass windows which surround the chancel and sanctuary are made up of timy pieces of broken glass from bombed churches, includung the old Saint John's church. You can clearly make out some of the figures of the former designs. The present abstract designs are by Stephen Dykes Bower and produce a glorious jewelled effect. The process of collecting and re-using old pieces of glass like this is called 'Fragmentation'.

Three of the windows at clerestory level in the sanctuary

Three of the sanctuary east windows at the triforium level - note the re-used pieces of painted glass

Two of the 'porthole' aisle windows, clearly showing the pressed quaries.
