Prayer and worship rest at the very heart of our parish life. Our worship at Saint John's covers the whole spectrum from the splendid ceremonial of the Solemn Mass on Sundays, to the more intimate surroundings of the weekday celebrations of the Eucharist, in the Lady Chapel: from the hustle and bustle of the childrens' services to the quiet of the Rosary prayer group.
At the Mass or Eucharist, we recall Jesus' death on the cross and the resurrection from the dead. It is the special service of the church, where the Holy Spirit transforms the bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ.
Everyone, regardless of age, receives a friendly welcome to worship at Saint John's Newbury. There is an area in church for the very small children and their parents, where they can play safely, whilst still being part of the worship. On every other Thursday, the Mass is specially geared towards young parents and children. There is wheelchair access to the church and the Parish Room. In addition, there are special services throughout the year for the schools and local community, such as the Saint Luke's-tide service for the Hospital. SUNDAYS
8.00 am - Said Mass: a quiet reflective service with sermon, for the beginning of the day
10.30 am -The Parish Mass: the main act of worship on a Sunday, with music and sermon, when the parish family gathers to offer praise and thanks to God. After Mass we gather in the Parish Room for sherry, tea or coffee and a chat.
